Below is my reflection on my student teaching semester.
Spring 2020-Second Grade
Viborg-Hurley Elementary Viborg, SD
After Christmas I moved down the hallway to the second grade room. To say this semester was unique is an understatement. With the semester being cut short due to COVID-19, I was still able to acquire important skills. For one, I learned how to flexible. COVID-19 caused for us to finish our school year online, during this time I helped my co-operating teacher the best I could. I made YouTube videos reading to my students. Secondly, I learned that building relationships with students is key. I practiced getting to know my students as learned and as children. We worked on measuring, time and reading with fluency. Before COVID-19 caused us to become online, we were still able to have some fun and enjoy the use of technology in the classroom.
Fall 2019-Kindergarten
Viborg-Hurley Elementary Viborg, SD
For my first semester, I spent my time in the Kindergarten room. We had a busy semester with 24 little bodies! . During my time I gained lots of useful tools that will help me in my future career. First, I learned how to set up a routine for students, we practiced the whole first month the routines of school and why we have rules. The students caught on very quickly and we were set for a successful school year. Second, I learned a lot of classroom management techniques. I learned that using positive reinforcement will help students stay on task, yet still creating a positive and safe classroom environment for the students. We had a lot of fun during my time in Kindergarten. We started to learn how to read and addition!
